I'm looking for a way to install the SQL Server 2005 Tools onto client
machines, does anyone know of an easy way to do this? I'm guessing our tech
support will want to use sms. What executables are involved in this?

Let us know the SSMS version you are using.
In SQL 2008 SSMS, I can see the default value set correctly as "2.0"
