Hi,

This is my first post.

I backed up my registered servers on SSMS 2008, including passwords,
re-installed my OS from scratch, and imported the server list.

When I run SSMS 2008 now, I get a .NET Framework unhandled exception error
with the following details :-

************** Exception Text **************
System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException: Key not valid for use
in specified state.

I now can't see anything in registered servers and don't have the ability to
register any more. Also, I can't connect to any servers.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but this didn't work.

Could someone tell me where the registered servers are stored (ie in the
registry) so that I can try and delete them and see if that fixes the issue..?

Thanks
Eddy

I have found the file.

For anyone else with the same problem, it is in your user profile in the
following location :-
\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Shell and is
called RegSrvr.xml.

I renamed it, restarted SSMS and it worked fine.

Thanks
Eddy
