I note that the minimum OS for SQL Server 2008 is Windows Server 2003 SP2, I
am currently running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP1 and need to know if this
version of OS is supported

SQL Server 2008 is supported only on the SP2 level of Windows Server 2003
including Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server R2. SQL Server 2008 is not
supported on the SP1 level of Windows Server 2003.
