Archived from groups: microsoft>public>sqlserver>clustering (more info?)

Hi,

I have a question that I hope someone can help me with (I've trawled the
net...).

I want to consolidate several SS 2K databases on to a new SS 2005 2 node
cluster. I will use SS 2005 standard for the cluster. Is it possible to add a
2K instance to a 2005 cluster running with standard edition? ( I need to do
this as one of the 2K databases will not be supported on 2005).

Previously I would have to buy 2K enterprise to support clustering so I
wondered how this would work.

I ideally would like a 3 virtual instance 2 node cluster:
2005 default isntance
2005 named instance
2000 instance.

Does anyoen know if this is possible using a 2005 standard licence?
If it is any words of wisdom for a novice?

Many thanks,

Jason.

Hi,

OK after lots of reading I understand that if I want an instance of 2000 I
will have to install 2000 Enterprise along side 2005 Standard.

Has anyone ever attached a 2000 database to a 2005 clustered instance
successfully? (In compatibility mode?). I was wondering if this may be a
solution to me running just 2005 and not having to get a separate licence
and then installation for 2000.

I hope this isn't a silly question.
