Post subject: Reading scannres output

We are developing a web based accounting system.
We have a server runnig Linux (switching to win is ok) and some clients all runnig win.
In the program clients neeed to scan some document attachments and upload them to our servers.
Some recommended to use Java applets and others told us to use Activex.
what do you say?
Where can we find them?
