We have a password protected split Access database on our company domain,
this database contains a particular report that one of the company directors
likes to see every week. However said director is rarely on site and has
requested that the report is run and then emailed to her every monday morning.
That's fine if someone remembers, but automating such a thing in Access
itself is quite difficult if no front end clients are running and using
Windows scheduled tasks is little better since I cannot know if any given
workstation will even be in use when the report needs to be run, much less
handle the DB login details.
So I was wondering about SQL Server, we have it running on the DC in charge
of various minor databases - can this be used to query the Access DB and
produce said report.
I have very limited knowledge of SQL Server as is probably apparent by my
question, any advice will be well received.
Thanks Peter.
