Post subject: Logon name (pre-Windows 2000) connection failure
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>sqlserver>connect (more info?)

Using SS Management studio (query window) I tried to create a windows logon
for an account i am looking at in Active Directory.

CREATE LOGIN [dev\svc-dev-CSCatalogWebSvc] FROM WINDOWS

I got this error message:

Msg 15401, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
Windows NT user or group 'COJ\svc-dev-CSCatalogWebSvc' not found. Check the
name again.

I am certain that the account exists. On the account tab, (in AD users &
computers) is see the "User logon name" correct (as above). However below
that there's a text box entitled "User logon name (pre-windows 2000)". IN
this box the user logon name is different.

It is clear that the Create Login is referencing the "Pre-windows 2000"
field instead of the "User logon name". Does anyone know
1. why this behaviour is occurring,
2. is it expected,
3. are there any performance or other issues associated with it,
4. how would I instruct Sql to not use the "Pre-Windows 2000" ?

Thanks in advance!
