I am installing the SQL 2008 Developer Edition on XP Professional Sp3 and VS
2008 sp1.

During the SQL 2008 installion, it complain the VS2008 is in previous
version and suggest to install SP1. it wouldn't allow me to continue.

I got VS2008 sp1 installed. how can I overcome this problem without
uninstall the VS2008.

Are you sure you don't have Visual Studio 2008 SP1 beta? When did you
download/install it? What is the version in Help|About?

You need Visual Studio SP1. You have RTM, not SP1. Look closely. .NET
Framework 3.5 SP1 is NOT Visual Studio 2008 SP1. The version I have is
"9.0.30729.1 SP" ... The version you have is RTM, not SP1. Please install
SP1 before attempting to install SQL Server 2008. You can get it here:

I have the same problem, except that I really DO have SP1 for VS2008
("9.0.30729.1 SP") installed. The machine is running Windows 2008 Server.

Does anyone know what registry setting the installation rule checks to
determine if SP1 for VS2008 is installed?
