Microsoft's Data Mining add-ins for Excel have some good functionality for data mining when you have the SSAS infrastructure on-site, give admin access to users on the SSAS server, and use Excel 2007 (not sure if/when add-ins will support 2010 or 64 bit).
Predixion Software has taken the concept further by creating "Predixion Insight" with all new 32/64 bit, Excel 2007/2010 add-ins that provide self-service predictive analytics - accessed via the cloud - which can be anywhere the user has an internet connection (public cloud) or on-premise (private cloud). The on-premise solution is a server that accesses SSAS/SQL instances. Our technology was developed by Jamie MacLennan, his Sr. Architect, Bogdan Crivat, and team. These two co-authored "Data Mining for SQl Server 2005/2008".
Both solutions are also natively integrated to PowerPivot (meaning that you can perform predictive analytics against large datasets in PowerPivot and write back to the PowerPivot database - from which you can slice and dice predictive results and publish them to Sharepoint where they are accessible by anyone in the browser via Excel services. Predixion Insight also supports text mining.
